Learning At Home
We have a policy of providing home learning opportunities that are enjoyable, manageable, interesting and extend and enrich the learning which takes place in school.
Every child is asked to read for at least 10 minutes a day either via bug club or with a book that they enjoy. It is also expected that parents write comments in their child’s Reading record when a child is heard reading. MyMaths homework is set weekly. Every child will be given a set of times tables to practise and learn each week at home. We issue bronze, silver, gold & platinum certificates for each set of times tables that have been mastered Spellings are issued every two weeks.
A copy of our Homework Policy is available policies section of this site.
Please click on the link to see the maths target sheets which are alligned to the new curriculum. Each child wil have one of these in the back of their mathematics book. At home, you can support their learning also, knowing exactly what they are doing in class.
There is also a link to the official government guidance for spellings and also non-statutory spelling lists for Upper and Lower Key Stage 2. Of course, in the first instance, the priority for your child is to learn their weekly spellings in their homework diary.
Please see the link to Google Classroom, which we use as our school Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for Computing work and also to allow children to digitally access work from across the curriculum both at school and at home. Every child in the school has an @chapelendacademy.org Google account, details should be in their homework diaries.
There is also a tab for Mathletics, our new maths online learning platform. The games are really fun and the children learn maths along the way! Your child should have their password in the back of their homework diary.
