Chapel End Junior Academy
We are located in north Walthamstow in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The school shares a site with Chapel End Infant School and Children’s Centre. We have a very good relationship with the infant school and all children from the infant school are guaranteed a place at our academy.
Our children come from a range of diverse backgrounds. Most of our children live locally and are able to walk to school. It is to our advantage that there are excellent local transport links to Walthamstow Central which provides good access for visits to central London.
The school is organised into four Year Groups. Each group is led by a senior teacher who acts as a ‘Year Leader’. These staff groups meet weekly to discuss children’s progress and to plan the learning in maths, literacy and our Cornerstones Curriculum. Focusing on the ability of children rather than their age ensures that children, at whatever stage of learning in any year group, are able to be involved in appropriate learning activities that meet their needs. This reflects the school commitment to equal opportunities for all children.
The school has excellent partnerships with families and the local community. Families enthusiastically support our school events such as productions, special events days and teacher meetings. The Governing Body is committed to excellence. They are a team which make a real difference to the life of our school. They have recently been involved in working with Mr Kenyon and the Senior Leadership Team in developing the new School Improvement Plan.
